Classes Gear Up At Lewis County Education Center – WWNY TV 7

People interested in health care spent Tuesday night learning about Allied Health courses offered at Jefferson Community College’s new education center in Lowville.

“We teach care coordination certificate,” JCC continuing education coordinator Devan Robinson said. “We have pre-certification programs in phlebotomy technician.”

Pharmacy technician, medical billing and coding, and clinical medical assistant are just some of the JCC programs offered at the center, which opened last month.

A variety of workshops are scheduled for this spring and the college hopes to offer credit-based classes in the summer.

“More of the SUNY gen-eds,” JCC community services director Betsi Bentz said. “Maybe your English, your math, history, humanities — those kind of courses.”

Cornell Cooperative Extension has also begun holding programs in the center and parent educator Kelly Kunz says it’s been a great start.

“Just for the month of February, we’ve had 149 participants come through with the different programming that we offer,” she said. “We have beekeeping and things like that that are coming up, lot of 4-H programming.”

Jefferson-Lewis BOCES will start classes in the fall. It will start by offering engineering and design programs for high school juniors and seniors, but it’s looking into offering additional programs in the future.
