Taco Tuesday has become a tradition in many US cities, where it is customary to go out and celebrate your favorite food usually at an amazing deal. Here, in no particular order, we’ve comprised our favorite restaurants in Chicago to celebrate.

We’ve taken many factors into consideration such as any deals itself, the quality and authenticity of the tacos, accompanying salsa (free chips are a plus!), atmosphere of the restaurant, as well as any additional tequila, beer, or margarita specials. From fancy outings to local favs, this list is your go to resource for tacos around Chicago.

La Vaca

Pilsen

Fried Avocado? Yes, please. La Vaca has fantastic and yummy meat, vegetarian, and even vegan options all without losing authenticity. Their margarita selection is a huge bonus. Their classic on the rocks is a must try, but if you’re into flavors we recommend the blended spicy mango. Patio space in the summer is the ambience you need to last all evening.

Don Pedro’s Carnitas

Pilsen

This spot located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood is probably one of the most legit servings of tacos. Fresh carnitas served family style with hot tortillas and all the traditional toppings… cilantro, onions, and pickled vegetables. True Chicagoans love the similarity to Giarnedera. This is a no frills joint, but the food always brings us back. I also recommend hitting up the elote man usually parked outside on 18th street.

Big Star

Wicker Park / Wrigleyville

Ambience and options is why this place made the list. Super convenient location off the blue line with a quick serve counter or you can stay at sit down at the restaurant. Their outdoor patio in the summer time is the place to be! Open until 2am so your taco celebrations can last all night long.

Federales

West Loop

Modern ambience in a great location just steps off the Morgan stop. This place is probably the priciest tacos on our list, about $4, but you do get what you pay for. Plus they have happy hour margaritas or beer buckets, and not just domestic. Coronas and tacos? Yes, I’ll be there. Bonus points if you can “ring the bell.” Go check it out and you’ll know what we mean.

Blue Agave Tequila Bar

Gold Coast / River North

The charm and class of this place is unbeatable. From the ornate wood carved chairs to the freshest salsa we’ve ever had. This place feels like a second home. Delicious tacos, mostly due to their salsa, with the best house margaritas Chicago has to offer. This place is a true tequila bar. Complimentary chips keep the salsa on the table all night!

Broken English

Lincoln Park / Old Town / The Loop

$2 Taco Tuesday specials where you can mix and match to try them all! Good happy hour margaritas as well. No house salsa, but many bottled favorites already waiting at the table for you. They have created such a fun ambience and all locations are convenient for a trendy after work crowd. Plus their patio is dog friendly in the summer!

El Nuevo Taconazo Restaurant

Little Village

They claim they are “The Best Tacos in Chicago” and we have to agree. Looking for a small bite or a full traditional plate? You’ll love this place, their house made salsa and chips will leave your mouth saying, “Fuego! I need more” and their chicken tacos are a must for any Chicagoan wanting to experience the true authentic taste of Mexican tacos at very affordable prices! We especially recommend asking for extra avocado salsa with free chips. Located a few blocks away from the Western Pink Line, add this stop on your way to Lagunitas Brewery or on your way back.
