A Lake Villa man accused of giving a fatal dose of heroin to a Gurnee woman was sentenced to 7 years in prison after a guilty plea Thursday.

Glenn Trauthwein, 37, of the 100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 3 years of parole after Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti approved the plea deal. The felony unlawful delivery of a controlled substance charge normally carries a maximum of 7 years in prison and 2 years parole, but Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Kalata was able to increase Trauthwein’s sentencing range due to prior convictions.

A drug-induced homicide charged was dropped in exchange for the plea deal.

Trauthwein received 615 days credit for the time he already served in jail since his arrest in June, 2017.

Kalata said after the plea deal, “the victim’s family met with prosecutors on multiple occasions and they were in agreement with the plea and sentence.”

Colleen J. Todorovic, 33, was found unresponsive March 3 in a single-family house on the 18700 block of West Highfield Drive in unincorporated Lake County near Gurnee, officials said.

Authorities said Trauthwein, Todorovic, and two other people were having a small party in the house March 2 when they began using heroin Trauthwein had purchased in Chicago that day.

Todorovic went to sleep after taking the heroin and didn’t wake up the next morning, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies called to the house March 3 found her unconscious and not breathing. They administered Naloxone and attempted other lifesaving measures, but she could not be revived, authorities said.

Trauthwein was arrested about six weeks later, and has been in custody at the Lake County jail on $750,000 bail.

Judge Victoria Rossetti said during the hearing that she will recommend Trauthwein be sent to a prison with a drug-treatment program. She added drugs were prevalent throughout Trauthwein’s lifetime, and he had been using drugs since he was 11-years-old.
