Where to volunteer and donate in Chicago this holiday season

FoodDrive[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he holidays are kicking off this month and now is the perfect time to donate food and toys to make sure everyone in Chicago has a wonderful winter.

Holiday Food Drive

Alderman Gilbert Villegas is teaming with State Rep. Luis Arroyo for a food drive from now through Nov. 22. Drop off donations at your local State Representative or Senator’s office!

Drop off food or other items donations to help the Humboldt Park community.

Nov. 21

Annual Lapa Food Drive

2300 W. Le Moyne | 8:30 a.m.

Donate to St. Aloysius Food Pantry at 2300 W. Le Moyne St. before Thanksgiving. And on Nov. 21 volunteers are meeting at the Aldi on 1767 N. Milwaukee Ave at 8:30 a.m. to help load food into vans. You can also meet at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Aloysius Food Pantry to unload food items. Coffee and donuts will be provided for everyone who helps.


Thanksgiving Mission

St. Marks Parish, 1048 N. Campbell Ave. | 3 p.m. | 773-342-1516 |

Parishioners and volunteers are having a Thanksgiving Mission for the homeless where they will be giving out food to families in viaducts or on the streets. Contact them to become a volunteer.

Nov. 24

#HelloHipHop 5th Annual Food and Toy Drive

Subterranean (upstairs), 2011 W. North Ave. | 8 p.m.- 1a.m. | 17+ show

In support of Greater Chicago Food Depository and Toys for Tots #HelloHipHop wants to re-introduce the culture of Hip Hop in Chicago with doing a good deed. Your can bring three or more food items and a toy or pay $5 at the door (all food must be non-perishable and all toys must be new).

Nov. 25

Donations Needed

Nuevo Leon Restaurant in Little Village |corner of Lawndale and 26th St |12-3p.m.

State Representative Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez and 12th District State Senator Steven M. Landek will be hosting a Thanksgiving Luncheon for families in Little Village. Consider donating non perishable food items and or accepting gift cards to raffle off to families.

Nov. 26

Thanksgiving Food Drive

St. Agnes of Bohemia Church |2651 S. Central Park Ave | 10 a.m.

Please bring your food donations to the church during the Thanksgiving Mass. Please bring nonperishable items, nothing in glass jars and please check expiration dates.

Have a home cooked Thanksgiving meal for the community from the volunteers of San Lucas United Church of Christ. Volunteers are always needed.

Nov. 26

Thanksgivng Luncheon

St. Agnes of Bohemia School |2643 S. Central Park Ave | 10 a.m.

Restaurants in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood will be donating food for a lunch for the community in the St. Agnes of Bohemia gym.
