With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime and the autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. In an incredible adventure, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world.
EXTRA spoke to Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor about the excitement of being part in this movie.
EXTRA: What makes this movie different than the other Transformer movies?
Nicola Peltz: The beautiful father/daughter story, the love story. The characters involved are all amazing and intertwine with each other. There are cool car chases and explosions.
Jack Reynor: It takes place four years after the war in Chicago, which was at the end of the third film. Transformers are in exile because society is trying to haunt them down. They are aware of them but don’t understand them. They have lost faith in humanity. They see clearly the faults we have as a race and they are fed up and ready to leave. Mark, Nicola and my character attempt to restore their faith in humanity. It is that human element that is really unique in this installment.
You filmed parts of the movie in Pilsen. Did you like the neighborhood?
Jack: I remember a lot of girls across the street at some point. I gave a lot of autographs for them. It was fun. It was a nice neighborhood.
Nicola: It’s always great when a big movie comes to your town. I lived in a small town and I saw one movie filmed there and it was always exciting to see. So it is always nice that people watch and are interested.
Coming from a small town and now being on the big screen, what did it take to get there?
Nicola: I worked really hard in acting. It’s my passion. To be in a big Michael Bay film is amazing.
Jack: For me, coming from Ireland, is really great to have the support that I do. It gives me a lot of encouragement and helps me to do the best work that I can to represent my country.
How did you get chosen for the role?
Nicola: It was a really long acting process. I auditioned but I didn’t hear back for a while and I assumed I didn’t get it. Meeting Michael for the first time was really exciting. [One day] I got a call from a random cell phone number. I was with my mom. Michael was on the phone and he said I got the job and I was freaking out and I did scream (laughs).
Jack: I was shooting in New York for “Delivery Men.” I arrived in L.A. and met Michael Bay and started to tape for Transformers. Hurricane Sandy happened at that point, which allowed me to stay to finish the Transformers race but I had to go back to Ireland in two weeks, but I wanted to continue working on the movie. When I came back, I got an email from Michael Bay that said “call me.” I fell on the ground shaking. I went home and told my friends and they lost their minds. I started prepping for the movie.
What would you like to say to our readers?
Jack: Thank you for your support! It gives us a lot of encouragement and confidence!
Nicole: I hope you enjoy the movie!
