Use the city of Chicago’s Early Learning Portal at to easily find early learning programs near your home or work. You can also compare programs side-by-side to select the highest quality option for your child and browse the frequently asked questions (FAQ) page to learn more about different alternatives and how to enroll your child in a quality early learning program.

On the portal, you can search by the address where you live or work to quickly find all the early learning programs located near you. Refine your search to find the features you most care about and choose your “favorites” and compare them on a list.

You can also get details about locations near you via text messages. Simply send a zip code to 773-886-1819 and follow the instructions on your phone. Additionally, you can call the “Chicago: Ready to Learn! Hotline” at 312-229-1690 to find out more information about programs that best meet your family’s needs. Applications are accepted year-round.

The Pre-K experience is critical, as it helps 3 and 4-year-old children develop the academic and life skills that will carry them into adulthood. Chicago Public School’s Pre-K provides children with essential opportunities to learn and practice the social-emotional, problem-solving, and academic skills that they will use throughout their lives.

Starting school is a major milestone in the life of a child, so help your child prepare by talking about what kindergarten might be like. Ask your child what they are thinking and feeling about Pre-kindergarten. What seems normal to adults may seem very overwhelming or frightening to a child at first. Feeling nervous, scared, excited or unsure are all normal feelings. So remember to be positive and supportive.

CPS funds early childhood education programs through both school and community-based organizations, so the key to choosing the right program is determining what works for your family.
