Man allegedly flashes gun in Humboldt Park

Gun_web[dropcap]P[/dropcap]olice arrested a man over the weekend for showing off a handgun to people in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Jorge Ortiz, 26, of the 1500 block of North Harding Avenue, was allegedly showing off a handgun tucked into his waistband to passing cars the evening of June 14, police said.

Around 8:25 p.m. police officers in plain clothes noticed Ortiz in the 3900 block of West North Avenue. When they announced who they were, Ortiz reportedly fled the scene.

“He ran on foot and he was placed into custody after a short chase,” said a spokesman for Chicago Police Department News Affairs. During the chase, Ortiz ran into a nearby building, and allegedly dropped the gun he had on his person onto the floor. The gun reportedly contained seven live rounds, including one in the chamber. Its serial number was defaced, said police.

Ortiz was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number. Judge Donald Panarese Jr. set his bail at $50,000. His next court date is June 20.
