Pros Arts Studio will celebrate the unveiling of their new name at the annual Holiday Tianguis and Pozolada festival on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan Str. at 6:00 p.m. This family-friendly, community supported culinary art and fundraising festival features a variety of pozoles, the classic celebratory Mexican stew, served up in uniquely crafted bowls made by local youth, parents and artists. Funds raised by the event will help support Pros Arts Studio’s free art classes.
“In 2013, Pros Arts Studio will reach 35 years of serving youth and families from Chicago’s southwest side. These neighborhoods, although beset by poverty, violence and aggressive gentrification efforts, have deep cultural roots and strong family values reflected by the large number of their Mexican-American resident families. This rebranding effort comes at a time, where we hope to refresh our image to more accurately reflect our educational and artistic mission within this Latino constituency,” explains Executive Director Giselle Mercier.
The organization, which is comprised of dedicated teaching artists and youth who inspire and support each other as art makers and active citizens, has used the arts as a means for youth development through safe spaces, in-school residencies, out-of-school-time programs and celebrations like the annual Pozolada festival.
Thanks to the Grant for Good, which seeks to positively impact the quality of strategy and marketing for small non-profit institutions through a focused, yearlong engagement, this neighborhood organization will be revealing their new name, just in time for a new year’s celebration.
Ticket prices are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Youth (under 12 years) tickets are $12. For more information you can go to elevartestudio.org/.
