Candidate for Cicero Town President, Lizveth Méndez, vowed to appeal the decision of the Cicero Electoral Board to kick her off February 26th ballot due to challenges to her candidacy filed by supporters of current Town President Larry Dominick and supporters of candidate Juan Ochoa. “Cicero voters have a right to choose their next Cicero Town President at the ballot box rather than have their options chosen for them by attorneys and a handful of politically connected individuals,” stated Méndez.

President Barack Obama proposed a new assault weapons ban and mandatory background checks for all gun buyers on Wednesday, Jan.16, the Chicago Tribune reported.  His decision clashed with the powerful U.S. gun lobby and its supporters in Congress, “who will resist what they see as an encroachment on constitutionally protected gun rights,” writes the Tribune. Obama will study the roots of gun violence by relating it to video games and media images.
