Crime Briefs: Robberies in Irving Park

Police issued an alert after two robberies were reported in the Irving Park neighborhood at the end of November.

The first incident happened in the 4000 block of North Central Park Ave. around 11:20 p.m. while the second happened in the 4000 block of North Keystone around 1:30 a.m., police say.

In both robberies the victims were approached by a couple that attempted to start a conversation with them. Once engaged in conversation the man implied he had a handgun and then stole the victims’ property. In one of the robberies the woman was pushing a stroller. The victim told police they were unsure if there was a child in the stroller, however.

The couple is described as a black man and black woman both between 25 and 35-years-old. The man is believed to be between five-ten and six feet tall, weighing about 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. The woman is described having long black hair and brown eyes.

Authorities are asking residents to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious people in the area.

“Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offender(s), including any vehicle description, license place information and direction of flight, if known,” said the alert.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robberies to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
