Crime Briefs: Police warn of sexual assaults in Belmont Cragin

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]wo women were sexually assaulted in two separate attacks in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood Monday morning.

The first attack happened in the 300 block of N. Mason Avenue at 8:35 a.m. Police say the attacker approached a 38-year-old woman and began to engage in a conversation of a sexual nature. The man then exposed his penis before fleeing southbound on Mason Avenue.

Later that day the offender assaulted a 36-year-old woman on the 2200 block of N. Mango Avenue at approximately 9:40 a.m. The attacker grabbed the victim’s buttocks and reached around to grab her groin area. When the victim turned to face the offender, the man had pulled his pants down and began masturbating before walking eastbound on Palmer Avenue, police said.

The attacker is described as a Hispanic male, 16 to 18-years-old, standing 5-foot 7 and between 135 to 170 pounds. He is also said to have brown hair, a light complexion and was last seen wearing a black hoodie.

Police are urging residents to be aware of their surroundings, to pay special attention to people loitering in the area and to report any suspicious activity and walking in pairs.

Residents should remain calm and comply if confronted by an offender, try to remember unique descriptors of the offender (i.e. scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.) and to call 911 immediately to provide a detailed description of the offender.
