Crime Briefs: Home burglaries in Jefferson Park continue

Police[dropcap]P[/dropcap]olice continue to issue alerts regarding burglaries in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.

Two recent burglaries happened in the 3800 block of N. Pacific last Monday around 1:20 p.m. and in the 6700 block of N. Oxford last Wednesday around 2:50 p.m.

In these two burglaries a man forced open the home’s front door to enter the home. The victims were home and heard a loud noise and when they confronted the burglar he yelled “Fire, Fire!” to distract them and then fled the residence, police said.

After leaving the home the burglar drove off with another person in a dark colored SUV, possibly a four-door Ford F-150 with a chrome grill, police said.

The offender in these burglaries is described as a White or Hispanic man, between 25 and 30-years-old, standing five foot eight and weighing about 150 to 160 pounds.

In a separate alert, police also notified residents of an additional four burglaries that happened within the boundaries of Gregory St. to Gunnison St. and Nagle Ave. to Canfield Ave.

These burglaries happened:

  • In the 5100 block of N. Normandy on Jan. 4 between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
  • In the 5300 block of N. Newland on Jan. 5 at 3:10 p.m.
  • In the 7000 block of W. Berwyn between Jan 16 and Jan. 17, between 7 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • In the 5100 block of N. Nagle on Thursday between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Police are advising residents to be aware of these burglaries and to alert friends and family about them. Moreover, they also advise to make sure all doors and windows are locked, to keep the perimeter of their property well lit and to pay special attention to any suspicious people loitering in the area. If video surveillance is available of a burglary, save and make a copy of it for the investigating detectives.
