Crime Briefs: Armed robberies in Avondale, Hermosa

cpd[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n Monday police issued an alert warning residents of an increase in armed robberies in the Avondale and Hermosa neighborhoods. Police say that in these armed robberies multiple suspects, at least one of which who was armed with a handgun, approached victims on the street or in small stores and demanded money, either by use of force or threat of force against the victim.
These armed robberies happened in the:
• 3000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue on May 30 around 11:45 p.m.
• 3900 block of West Barry Avenue on June 9 around 8:30 p.m.
• 3000 block of North Karlov Avenue on June 15 around 9:30 p.m.
• 2200 block of North Karlov Avenue on June 16 around 6:48 p.m.

The description of the suspects provided by police says that each of these armed robberies involved a group of Black males, between 18 and 25-years-old and who stood between five ten and six two.

Police are advising residents to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity immediately.

If confronted by an assailant police advise residents to remain calm, remember any unique physical characteristics (i.e., scars, limp, acne, teeth), to never pursue a fleeing assailant, and to provide the information to the police by dialing 911 immediately.
