The theme of this year’s Houby Fest will be “Shop President Larry Dominick’s ‘New Cicero’.””We want to create handout bags that include information about the various businesses that will be distributed to Houby Festival attendees, and we need our local businesses to participate,” explained Town President Larry Dominick. “We have a lot of businesses in Cicero and we want to support them.”
Business and economic development have grown exponentially under President Dominick’s watch, as the Town of Cicero has welcomed numerous responsible corporate citizens to Town — including Walmart, Sonic Drive-In, Fuller’s Carwash, and many others — as well as seen numerous small businesses open their doors to Cicero’s residents. The focus on opening new businesses in Town has brought with it hundreds of new jobs to the New Cicero.
Dominick urged businesses that wish to participate to contact the Town of Cicero Special Events Department at 708-656-3600 for more information.
Named “Houby” after the Czech and Slovak word for “mushrooms”, the Houby festivities began in 1968 in celebrations of the heritage of the many Cicero residents of Czech and Slovak decent. The festival continues as one of the town’s most esteemed annual events to this day, and has gone on to encompass numerous ethnicities and backgrounds in a stunning display of culture and unity for the entire community, and visitors, to share.
The Houby Festival and Carnival will be held on October 3rd-6th at the L Strip in between Austin and Cermak. The festival will feature live music from Infinity and 7th Heaven. The Houby Day Parade — featuring the recently-crowned Houby Queen — will kick off on Sunday, October 6th at noon.
