Crime report: Aug. 7 to Aug. 14


Humboldt Park
Aug. 10: A 26 year-old-man was shot in the buttocks on the 1400 block of N. Spaulding.
Aug. 14: Miguel Vazquez, of the 2500 block of Neva Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery discharge of a firearm, police said.

Back of the Yards
Aug. 8: Marco “Kreepy” Alvarado, 20, was charged with four counts of possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
Aug. 13: Police responded to a shooting around 12:15 a.m. in the 2800 block of South Kildare Avenue. They found Carla Eguez, 5, and Kelly Coca, 28, dead inside a home on the block.

Logan Square

Aug. 13: A man robbed a Cole Taylor bank branch on the 1900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 10:15 a.m. FBI officials described the man as black with a light complexion and facial hair. The man approached the teller and presented a note saying he had a weapon and demanded cash. After getting the cash, the man fled north. He was between 35 and 40 years old standing between 5 feet 10 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Aug. 13: Carlos Rivera, 18, of the 3900 block of West Wrightwood Avenue, was charged with murder in connection with a July 13 shooting incident that occurred in the 3700 block of West LeMoyne at approximately 1:50 a.m. The victim, Fernando Sanchez, 25, was pronounced dead about two hours later at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Rivera was expected in bond court Aug. 14.

Portage Park

Aug. 10: Two people were shot on the 5700 block of W. Irving Park Rd around 12:47 a.m. The first victim, 21, sustained gunshot wounds to the legs and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The victim was in stable condition at press time. The second victim, 22, sustained a graze wound from a gunshot to the abdomen but refused medical treatment.

Aug. 11: Three victims were shot on the 4200 block of North Central Avenue, near Irving Park Road, around 10:30 p.m. Police believe the gunmen mistook the Shyla Rivera, 4, her brother Javier Rosario, 17, and his 20 year old friend for someone else when they opened fire, unloading at least nine 9-millimeter rounds into the silver Nissan Altima they were inside. At press time all three victims are in good condition and Rivera was reported in good condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she is being treated for a gunshot wound to her right thigh. Police say the victims are not gang members, and no road rage incident preceded the shooting.
